There is a new vegetarian dish on the menu of Stone Rose in Conshohocken. As per an earlier post, I’ve had more energy lately, and so when DanielleJ rolled into town for the first time in seven months on her vacation, I picked her up from the train station and we started our usual meandering of where to eat, and as per usual, we ended up at The Stone Rose. As per usual, she got the short ribs and mac and cheese… I however, was delighted that a new vegetarian item was added to the menu since I’d last eaten there (and not just popped in for a drink)–one in which the Nikki didn’t have to request “no this” nor “can I have this on the side.” I’m talking about the vegetarian stuffed poblano pepper… packed with jasmine rice, roasted squash and peppers and served on a bed of rice and two different bean purees and sided with asparagus.
And how was it? I can’t say that I’ve ever had a bad dish at Stone Rose… ever. They’ve always been very accommodating in adjusting to meet the requests of their customers–and this dish is no exception. Vegetarian and gluten free, it meets the dietary needs of a growing segment of the population. Not only that, it is amazingly delish. I’d personally like a little more spice in mine, but I like spice–this is mild enough to satisfy most palettes. Nonetheless, I’m certain I will be ordering this again soon as it was the perfect dinner (and I’m finally feeling well enough that going out is enjoyable again). Sadly, I don’t have a photo of the plate as the lighting wasn’t cooperative, but it presented as well as it tasted.
In a world where “just get a salad” is not an acceptable solution to dining, I’m glad that some of my favorite places are including more options on the menu. I’ve stopped going to establishments that don’t provide options or aren’t willing to accommodate a vegetarian order. In fairness, most will–but there are those that simply will not. And I simply won’t give them my business, recommend them, or take visitors.
