Yesterday I resolved to get a start on making the applesauce necessary to sustain me for the year ahead. This is no easy feat–I LOVE applesauce! I eat it, I cook with it. It goes fast here and I’ve been out for nearly a month. Not having had an opportunity to go to the orchard, and getting ready to travel again next weekend… I went to my local farm, picked some up out of a crate and went to work.
But first, flash back to my weekend morning ritual of coffee and toast at the Conshohocken Cafe. Kristin makes their granola, which is beautifully layered in the weekend parfait, and available on the regular breakfast menu. I’ve never ordered it, as I don’t consume dairy products, but I sampled some this morning. Delicious and healthy–and not from a box, it is loaded with oats, flax seed, wheat germ, nuts and fruit… it’s simply awesome. I said it would be perfect on some applesauce (since that’s where my mind was headed right after the coffee), and Kristin sent me home with a little container.
And it is perfect! The sweet crunch pairs wonderfully with the warmed and slightly spiced applesauce I made today.
In the meantime, a word about the Cafe — I highly recommend you stop and try the granola, or anything else on the menu. Personally, I recommend the chili (which is vegan sans the cheese and sour cream), or the veggie wrap. The veggie burger is also excellent (and vegan). The granola does have honey in it–so if that’s off your list then it is off the list. Of course, I also recommend the coffee and toast!
Bottom line, while not a vegetarian restaurant, they are very veg-friendly option if you are in the area.
